I recently went downtown Vancouver for work and found this great place called Grain Tasting Bar at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. It was a perfect place to work, gaze out the window at passers-by and enjoy a refreshing glass of pino blanc with my lunch. On the menu I couldn't decided between the 'Vegan Power Bowl'; a delicious mix of grains and veggies or the 'Signature Cobb Salad'; a spinach, confit ahi tuna salad mix. After chatting with the server I went for the salad. It was recommended as a nice light lunch full of protein with the mini 64 degree egg and ahi tuna.
The salad had a light lemon vinaigrette that paired nicely with the tuna. The deep fried egg was a perfect bite size. The rocket lettuce could have been mixed with some other greens as I find it has a bitter taste to it on its own. The presentation was stunning and I didn't want to mix it up. So, after mixing it with the avocado and lemon vinaigrette, the arugula took on the flavour and I greatly enjoyed it. The avocado had a hint of lime drips which created a creamy citrus flavour that I quite enjoyed. I finished my tuna by using it to clean up the remainder of the avocado. It was tantalizing!
The wine that I paired was a Viognior from Great Northern Vineyards in Naramata BC. It was light, crisp and not too sweet.
I would recommend Grain as a great lunch spot. The service was quick, friendly and the food had superb flavour. I would rate this restaurant a 4.5 ⭐️. I am interested to go back and check out their dinner menu one day. Until then...
